Edge® Balustrade

Edge® is an aluminium post balustrade system which is a more comprehensive and modern version of the ever-popular Viking® balustrade system. Edge® has additional modern features such as hidden fixings, a slightly larger post, upstands on the post, and a wider range of aluminium and glass infills.

Edge® can be configured in a range of framed or semi-frameless finishes (with and without top rails) and a range of aluminium infills that extends beyond standard baluster rails, with front-mounted fins and perforated aluminium panels recently introduced for urban design projects.

Product Assurance

Scope

  • Edge Balustrade is suitable for deck and balcony barriers, stairways, handrails, pool fencing and matching pool or stairway gates
  • Suitable for fixing to timber, concrete, steel
  • Edge Balustrades can also accommodate waterproof and floating decks with a specially designed aluminium gutter bracket

A choice of four handrails are available: round, rectangular, and a single or twin pocket Aerofoil style which can be incorporated as a top rail or as a standalone handrail. An interlinking rail, for 10mm semi frameless glass balustrades can be top mounted (on the post caps) or front mounted 100mm below the top edge, using a handrail bracket fixed to the face of the balustrade post. A semi frameless glass finish, without a handrail can be achieved using 13.2mm thick toughened laminated glass, although the use of the Edge slimline top protection cap is highly recommended to help prevent any discolouring of the interlayer.

Limitations on Use
  • Edge Balustrade must only be installed in accordance with the Edge product manual
  • Any deviation from standard fabrication or installation must be accompanied by a site specific PS1, with site specific calculations and drawings. Juralco can help with arranging site specific producer statements
  • Glass must have a minimum strength of 100MPa
  • All glass edges must be polished
  • An interlinking top rail or handrail must be used on Edge semi-frameless toughened glass balustrades
  • A top protection cap is suggested for laminated glass panel infill finishes

Performance

  • Designed and manufactured in New Zealand, Edge Balustrade has been engineered and tested by independent engineers to comply with NZ standards AS/NZS1170, NZS4223.3.2016 and NZBC Clause F9, and 162C of the Building Act
  • Edge Balustrade is suitable for Occupancy A, A other and C3 Residential
  • An interlinking top rail and/or handrail has been incorporated into the Edge semi frameless range to comply with new 2016 balustrade regulations — NZS4223.3.2016
